The press service of the Apostolic See has confirmed that a letter from Pope Benedict XVI was handed to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, RIA Novosti reports.
The content of the letter remains unknown.
The press service of the Apostolic See summarised that this letter is an answer to a leeter from Ahmadinejad sent to the Pope in the beginning of October.
It was known that Ahmadinejad appreciated the position of the Apostolic See on the attempts by the American pastor Terry Jones to burn the Qur'an in public. The Vatican was against such activities as insulting the Muslim people.
He also proposed that the Pope strengthen interreligious cooperation to fight against a secular world and for religious freedom.
