Medvedev to meet Japanese PM in Yokohama

The Russian leader’s press secretary has confirmed that the president’s and prime minister’s summit schedules are currently being coordinated to provide for their meeting. According to the Russian leader’s press secretary, Japan invariably raises the issue of the Kuril Range islands during such meetings.
However, Russia’s position on the issue remains the same.
The Russian President paid a visit to Kunashir Island on the 1st of this month, sparking off diplomatic protests from Japan. The four southernmost Kuril Islands were handed over to Russia as a result of
the Second World War, which is set down in the UN Charter and other international agreements.
