Sargsyan: Armenia plans to develop nuclear energy
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaPresident of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said at the opening of the 14th regular session of the Nuclear Safety Council that Armenia reconfirms its intention to develop nuclear energy.
"On November 5th we will mark the 20th anniversary of the reopening of the second unit of the Armenian nuclear power plant after six years of cessation of activities. It is a unique project. Since the moment of the reopening of the second unit, 1400 events on increasing the security level were implemented," News.am cited Sargsyan as saying.
"The program to extend the lifetime of the second energy unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will be implemented in two phases. The first phase is a comprehensive program of inspection systems, equipment, components and structures of nuclear power plants; the second phase is the implementation of the necessary replacement and upgrade, as well as the implementation of measures to improve security," he noted.
