Putin visits 'Derbent, Dagestan, Russia' exhibition in Moscow

The exhibition 'Derbent. Dagestan. Russia' opened yesterday in the State Historical Museum of Moscow. The event was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The exhibition includes five sections: Antiquity, the Middle Ages, XVIII century, XIX century, Modernity, where each time segment represents the most significant events related to Derbent. The director of the museum of figurative art named after Gamzatova, Salikhat Gamzatova, showed the exhibition to the President.

The 'Antiquity' section includes bronze and pottery. The Middle Ages section presents a recreated hut with all its decorations. The XVIII century section presents the arrival of Emperor Peter I in Derbent. The last 'milestone' is the playground telling about modern Dagestan. Visitors can also get acquainted with works of Dagestani art.

While visiting the exhibition, the head of Dagestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov, told the President of Russia about the implementation of priority development projects in the region. According to him, particular attention was focused on such a project as "whitewashing the economy." Moreover, Ramazan Abdulatipov informed the President that an extensive fund of manuscripts was collected in Dagestan.

Vladimir Putin also held a meeting with representatives of scientific, cultural, religious and public organizations of the Republic of Dagestan.

Vladimir Putin stressed that much depends on the people who live in Dagestan. "Dagestanis are very talented people, who are devoted to their work, country and the whole of Russia. I would like to congratulate you on the jubilee once again. As the head of the republic told me, the celebrations were quite festive and colorful," he said.

The Chairman of the Dagestani Public Chamber, Gamzat Gamzatov, thanked the President on behalf of all Dagestanis for constant attention and support for the region.

"I highly appreciate the Dagestanis' devotion to their homeland. Our goal, indeed, both in Syria and anywhere else, is to counter terrorism. We are ready to cooperate with all forces who are countering terrorism, regardless of their religious denominations. And we are doing this work rather intensively," the Russian leader noted.

The chairman of the Council of Elders under the Head of the Republic of Dagestan, Abdulla Magomedov, said that there have been positive dynamics in the development of the economy and other spheres in the region in recent years. 

According to the General Director of the Derbent factory of sparkling wines, a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic, Magomed Sadulayev, the anniversary of Derbent united all Dagestanis because all representatives of society were involved in the preparation.

The head of Dagestan, Ramazan Abdullatipov, shared his impressions of the event. "Thanks to the efforts of the Government of the Russian Federation together with the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Dagestan under the President of Russia, the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasus, we were able to implement the program fully in accordance with the Decree of the President and the Action Plan," Ramazan Abdulatipov stressed.

"Today, when I accompanied Mr Putin after visiting the exhibition, he said that it was very good. And the fact that he visited the exhibition is also a manifestation of love and respect for Dagestan," Abdulatipov added.

For his part, the mayor of Derbent, Malik Bagliyev, said that he felt a great responsibility for the future of Derbent and will do everything possible to make sure the deputies and the head of the republic do not regret their choice.

The objectives of the exhibition are to show Derbent and present the stages of the intense road of the cultural and historical development of Dagestan to a wide audience.
