In Chechnya, while clearing the area for construction of a house in the mountainous village of Kharachoy in the Itum-Kale district, builders found an ancient burial of mountain dwellers who lived in these places in the 15th-16th centuries.

The uniqueness of the discovery lies in the fact that it dates from the time when Chechens were only beginning to adopt Islam, so the findings in the burial ground could show a replacement of pagan traditions with Islamic ones.

The owner of the land plot has admitted that he never imagined that the land he inherited from his ancestors was a medieval cemetery, the Chechen State Television and Radio Company 'Grozny' reports.
