Helmut Schmidt passes away

According to the doctor of former Prime Minister Heiner Greten, former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt passed away today at the age of 97 at his home in Hamburg.

In September, surgery was performed on Schmidt due to blockage of blood vessels in the leg. A few days after surgery he was discharged from hospital and since then he was under the supervision of doctors at his home.
