The Armenian Apostolic Church did not receive recognition in Georgia. "We will not give the Echmiadzin church official status in Georgia," Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Civil Integration Elene Tevdoradze said at the conference "The Armenian community in Tbilisi: Problems and Prospects", reports Armenia Today, citing "Echo
of the Caucasus" radio.
Tevdoradze advised the Armenian community to intensify its work with young people: "Naturally, we have huge problems. But let us think about how we, together with you, the Armenian community, can help our citizens of
all nationalities to learn Georgian, that is the state language, and at the same time to avoid assimilation and the disappearance of the mother tongue", she said.
