Internationally renowned medievalist Sergey Karpov leaves post of Dean of History Department at MSU

It has been announced at a meeting of the board of professors, held under the chairmanship of the rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, that the Dean of the History Department of Moscow State University, Sergey Karpov, is leaving the post at his own request. He explained his decision was due to the fact that he would like more time to carry out research work.

During the meeting, Viktor Sadovnichy offered Sergey Karpov to take the post of adviser to the rector and the president of the History Department and received an affirmative answer.

His colleagues highly appreciated the work of the scientist as the dean of the department.

Recall that Sergey Karpov was the head of the department from 1995. His books have been translated into many other languages. Besides the Russian Academy of Sciences, he is an honorary professor at Jilin University (China) and a corresponding member of the Venice deputation of Russian history (Italy). 

Doctor of Art, Deputy Dean and head of the Department of General History of Art, Professor Ivan Tuchkov, was recommended as the new head of the History Department. 

The new head of the department will be elected at a meeting of the Academic Council.
