Russian Premier Vladimir Putin has discussed realization of the
Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the South Stream gas pipeline and
construction of a Turkish nuclear power plant with his Turkish
counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Trend reports, citing the Russian
government.

It was noted that the Turkish government had ratified the agreement on
constructing the nuclear power plant. The power plant is located at
the nearby port of Mersin (Akkuyu platform). The agreement was signed
on May 12 in Ankara. In early October the Russian government
introduced the agreement for ratification to the State Duma. The
project involves construction of four energy blocks, with a total
output of 1.2 GW, based on the Russian AES-2006 project with a
water-cooled power reactor.

In October the Turkish minister of energy reported that Turkey plans
to construct the Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline with a capacity of 50
million tons in the second half of 2011. At least half of the oil
transported will come from Russia.

The prime ministers also talked about the technical features of the
work on constructing South Stream, located in a special economic zone
of Turkey.

Putin and Erdogan confirmed that the projects are being carried out
according to schedule. South Stream will diversify export routes for
Russian gas. The sea section of the gas pipeline, covering 900
kilometers, will go beneath the Black Sea from the Russian compression
station ‘Russkaya’ on the Russian coast to Bulgaria. The sea part of
South Stream will have a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters of gas
annually.
