Kurdish forces launch offensive to retake Sinjar

Kurdish forces have launched an offensive to take back the town of Sinjar from IS.

The Kurds plan to establish a buffer zone to protect the city from incoming artillery, TASS reports.

IS controls approximately one third of the territory of Iraq.
