Russia can solve global political problems with the help, support and mediation of the friendly countries of the former Soviet Union, primarily Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Senator of the Republic of Crimea, a member of the Federation Council Committee for international affairs Sergei Tsekov said in the studio of Vestnik Kavkaza.

"The very serious diplomatic opportunities of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan can play a mediatory role in the settlement of relations between Russia and Turkey. Certainly, the main steps in the settlement should be taken by the leaders of Russia and Turkey, but unfortunately, just such real steps are yet to be taken. People close to the Turkish leadership often discuss it. They make some statements, regret that they had done and are ready to apologize, but the politicians don't make any statements. I have already noted several times that you are a statesman, not a politician who pursues his own interests, then it would be correct for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to apologize for what had happened in this difficult situation for And I think that it would be more beneficial for Turkey,'' he underlined.

"Maybe Erdogan lost some opportunities due to the fact that he intended to be a politician with an iron will, who has never gone back on his word, but if it negatively influences your country then you would be better to find the strength to do this. In the end, such things as Erdogan's authority and the authority of Turkey cannot be compared with each other. Turkey should be in first place, but unfortunately the leader sticks to another opinion. Intermediaries are important, but they are not the main goal,'' Sergey Tsekov said.

"Russia, relying on friendly relations with a number of post-Soviet countries, can resolve global political issues. A real politician can really solve any international matters, which should be supported by his allies. It seems that Russia is now finding more and more allies among other countries. We retain our traditional allies, who are mainly those countries that were formed after the collapse of the Soviet Union, except for the Baltic states and Ukraine. But we go back to our work and we see the results of the latest developments in the Middle East and North Africa, which we started and virtually lost in the early '90s," the member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs said.

"We had to work for a long time in order to restore order in the country. We often asked ourselves in Crimea why Russia didn't pay enough time and attention to the Russian region, the integral part of the great Russian world, the cradle of the great Russian Orthodoxy. We started discussing it since the mid 90's? Russia always responded that the country has serious internal problems now that Russia has to solve: to become or return to the ranks of the great influential countries again. After that, Russia would help Crimea. And so it was. Of course, we have never dreamed that it would be possible to become a part of Russia again. Russia is trying to restore relations with other countries. It is time to regain our allies," the senator from Crimea noted.
