Emomali Rahmon receives Leader of Nation status
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaPresident of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has signed a bill 'On the Initiator of Peace and Accord – the Leader of the Nation', which was previously supported by both houses of Parliament.
The document was adopted "with a view to strengthening the foundations of the constitutional system of state independence, unity of the motherland, the strengthening of democracy, promoting economic, social and cultural development and protection of historical values."
The bill consists of 16 articles and provides the political and legal status of the Leader of the Nation, determines its competence and integrity. In addition, the Leader of the Nation retains the right to address the people of the republic and participate in important state events, TASS reports.
Emomali Rahmon became the President of Tajikistan in November 1992. He won the presidential elections in 1994, 1999, 2006 and 2013.
