'Organic' labels on food products banned in Azerbaijan
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan has approved the new standard 'Food. Consumer Information. General Requirements'. According to the new standard, it is now prohibited to label food products with an eco-friendly mark in Azerbaijan.
It is allowed to place information about the product's properties such as a 'grown using only organic fertilizers', 'grown without pesticides', 'grown without the use of fertilizers', 'fortified', 'no preservatives' only if there is confirmation from the manufacturer, Trend reports.
It is also prohibited to give a food product a name which may mislead consumers on how to cook this product, and also to deceive about its identity, composition, size or period of detention, and claim characteristics the product does not have.
