UN leader condemns North Korea for attack on South Korea
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaUN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the Democratic People's
Republic of Korea for attacking a South Korean military base and
presented its information to the UN Security Council, Associated Press
reports, citing the press-secretary of Ban Ki-moon.
The UN head, a South Korean native, urged the sides to urgently settle
the conflict using peaceful means.
A spokesman of the UK, the chairing country of the UN Security
Council, said that no request for an urgent meeting of the UN was made
by either South or North Korea. The official said that he is in
contact with the USA and China and that US President Barack Obama had
promised to support South Korea.
On Tuesday, North Korean forces fired a volley at a military base of
South Korea. South Korean forces opened counter-fire. The world
community supports the South Korean side, though it was later revealed
that South Korea had held military training in the area, which may
have caused the North Korean reaction.
The sides are currently threatening each other with new attacks if any
violations of the sea or land borders occur between North and South
Korea.
