USSR's first Olympic champion passes away in Tbilisi

Mzia Dzhugeli has passed away at the age of 91 in Tbilisi. She was the first Olympic champion from Georgia. As a member of the USSR national team Mzia Dzhugeli won the team competition in gymnastics in 1952 in Helsinki. In addition, she won silver in group exercises with an object at the same competition.

Mzia Dzhugeli became the champion of the Soviet Union eight times in the vault. She was honored master of sports, honored coach of Georgia, honorary citizen of Tbilisi, Knight of the Order of Honor and the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali of the II and III degrees, Sputnik Georgia reports.
