People’s Assembly in Georgia expresses distrust of Mikhail Saakashvili
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Georgian People’s Assembly has expressed distrust of the Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili at the parliament building, Trend reports.
A leader of the People’s Assembly Giya Burjanadze said that an impeachment would be a legal actions to call on the presidents resign.
The protestors do not recognize amendments to the Georgian Constitution, passed on October 15. The new Constitution limits the president’s power and gives more powers to the prmie-minister and the parliament. The Constitution will be coming into force gradually.
The People’s Assembly is an executive authority, consisting of 33 people, including politicians and social figures – Nino Burjanadze, Nona Gaprindashvili, Rezo Esadze, Irakly Batiashvili, Kakha Shartava, Luka Kurtanidze and others.
The protest is headed by Gogi Kavtaradze, who urged the First Social TV Channel of Georgia to broadcast the event live.
Approximately 6 000 people have already gathered. Organizers of the protest expect a total of 12 500.
