Iran is seeking new opportunities to extract and export its natural gas, including developing facilities to liquefy the commodity and ship it to Europe in two years, CEO of Iran's National Gas Export Co. Alireza Kameli said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

One project would involve restarting work on the country’s most advanced LNG project, Iran LNG, which was 40% complete before sanctions were introduced in 2012. It could take another 3-4 years to complete the project.

Another project would be building a pipeline to Oman, which already has LNG facilities. The company is also in talks with European companies to build floating LNG facilities where the gas would be liquefied.

In the long term, Iran would like to export about 30 billion cubic meters to Europe per year, Interfax reminds.
