Mamed Emin Rasulzade was born on this day

132 years have passed since the birth of the Azerbaijani political and public figure, one of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Mammad Amin Rasulzade.

Mamed Rasulzade was born on January 31st 1884 in Baku, in the village of Novkhani. In 1904 he participated in the creation of the Gummet organization. In 1909 he had a fear of persecution by the tsarist regime and he left Baku for Iran. In 1910 he created the Democratic Party of Iran. He worked in the country as the chief editor of the newspaper ‘‘Irane Nou" and "Ahat Iran." In 1917 Rasulzvde was elected to the State Duma of Russia from Azerbaijan and Turkistan. That year he led the party of Musavat. On May 27th in 1918 he was elected by the majority of votes as chairman of the Azerbaijani National Council, created by members of the Muslim faction of the Sejm. Thus, the first government of the republic in the East was formed – the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic headed by Fatali Khan Khoyski.
