The Republic of Turkey was proclaimed on October 29, 1923. The first president of Turkey was  Mustafa Kemal, dubbed Atatürk (the father of Turks). The new president conducted economic reforms: he nationalized public transport and major factories and enterprises, as well as created new banks. October 29 was declared the day of the Turkish Republic's founding.

Shortly before the holiday, I and my colleague Sanam Aliyeva interviewed Turkish ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Estonia Ayshenur Alpaslan. Sanam Aliyeva and me, Olga Olo, host radio show “Voice of Azerbaijan”.  The irst episode of our show coincided with the Turkish Republic Day.

Ayshenur Alpaslan told us that she had been in Estonia for a year already. She also said that she was happy to know that Azerbaijani embassy was to be opened in Turkey in 2011. Tofig Nadir oglu Zulfugarov was appointed Azerbaijani  ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Estonia.
