New Azerbaijani lawmakers elect speaker

Oktay Asadov has been re-elected speaker of the Azerbaijani
parliament, Trend reports, citing the head of the parliament's
press-service Akif Tavagulyoglu.


The voting was held at the first session of the new parliament.
Ziyafet Askerov was also re-elected as the First Vice-Speaker, Bakhar
Muradov and Valekh Aleskerov -- as vice-speakers.


The Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan approved the results of
parliamentary elections held on November 7.


The Central Electoral Commission approved the protocols on election
results on November 22, 2010. The protocols were signed by 17 out of
18 members of the commission.


According to the CEC, 50.14% of the population, 2 480 205 people, took
part. There were 690 candidates.


The previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
Azerbaijan uses a majority system with 125 electoral districts.
