Turkmen Foreign Minister meets with WTO Director General

The Turkmen authorities are studying the possibilities of joining the WTO. The deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, has held a series of meetings with heads of international organizations, including the director general of the World Trade Organization, Roberto Azevedo, during his working visit to Geneva.

The Turkmen government reported that during these meetings “special attention was paid to the implementation of initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at strengthening global energy security, environmental protection, development of international transport infrastructure and regional trade, as well as addressing water problems," Trend reports.

Ashgabat was invited to join the WTO in 2011.
