Turkey's authorities recognize explosion in Ankara as a terrorist attack

The Turkish General Staff in Ankara has recognized that the explosion that took place tonight near the Navy Command building was a terrorist attack.

It is reported that the cause of the explosion was a bomb in a car. The special services are working at the scene now.

According to the latest data, as a result of the attack 18 people were killed and 45 were injured, Trend reports.

A representative of the Turkish security forces spoke about some "initial signs" that show that the PKK terrorist group was responsible for the terrorist attack in Ankara.

An emergency meeting of the Security Council of the country is to take place in the near future in connection with the recent events. It will be attended by the Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu.

The attack forced President Recep Tayyip Erdogan change his plans and cancel a planned visit to Azerbaijan.

According to the head of Ministry of Health of the Republic, Mehmet Myuezzinoglu, the tragedy took 20-21 lives.

"61 people were injured and they were taken to 14 hospitals of the city. I cannot say the exact number of victims, as it is outside my competence, the Ministry of Interior is responsible for that, but, according to my information, no less than 20-21 people died. Three people died in hospital. Three are being operated on," RIA Novosti cites Myuezzinoglu.

Representatives of the service have already appealed to residents of the capital to donate blood for the victims. "Health facilities need blood for the victims. We asked the residents of Ankara to donate blood,'' one of them urged.

The Supreme Council of Turkey has already managed to implement traditional restrictions in such cases regarding the work of the mass media. "It was restricted to cover the scene of the terrorist attack or broadcast the moment of the explosion and what happened after it, including its victims," ​​he said.
