Merkel wants OSCE observers to return to South Caucasus

The chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel stated at the OSCE summit in Astana that Germany stands for the sovereignty and territorial unity of Georgia and improving of the security and humanitarian conditions, Trend reported.

The mission of the OSCE observers was closed down in 2009 after they had faced a serious crisis of trust during the conflict in Georgia in 2008.

Security in the OSCE states is the main theme of agenda in the summit in Astana. The summit is being held in the capital of Kazakhstan, and all heads of the state-members and heads of their governments are participating, as well as 12 partner-countries and representatives of 68 international organizations.
