Miners' strike in Tkibuli ends
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaMore than a thousand miners of the 'Gruzugol GIG' holding in the town of Tkibuli (Imereti region, Western Georgia) have decided to end the strike they started 16 days ago. They demanded higher wages and better working conditions.
According to Georgian media, agreement between the strike committee and the management of the company was reached after negotiations that lasted for seven hours with the participation of the business ombudsman Giorgi Gakharia and the Chairman of the Georgian Trade Union Association, Irakli Petriashvili.
"As a result of the negotiations the sides agreed that the wage fund of the 'Gruzugol GIG' holding will be increased by 5%, but the salaries of miners and workers who are engaged in the high-risk areas will be increased by more than 5%," Interfax cited Gakharia as saying.
