Mogherini urges Turkey to respect democratic values

The head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini, commenting on the situation around oppositional Turkish newspaper Zaman, has urged Ankara to respect democratic values.

"It is necessary for Turkey, as a candidate country, to answere EU's call to respect the highest standards, which concern the rule of law, democracy, fundamental freedoms, starting with freedom of speech and freedom of assembly," TASS quoted her as saying.
