Astana summit revives bipolarity in OSCE
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe OSCE summit in Astana brought back to life the bipolarity of the
organization, a division between Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian poles,
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said today.
According to Azimov, the outcome document of the Astana summit does
not reflect upon the basic principles of conflict resolution. However,
the OSCE chairman, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Kanat Saudabayev
made a special statement at the summit, which contained the principles
of the Helsinki Final Act.
Araz Azimov said that the statement was in favor of Azerbaijan. He
also added that "the position of some states did not allow to
consolidate the fundamental principles that stand at the roots of
conflict settling in the documents of the Astana summit. Since the
OSCE is an organization based on the consensus principle, we have
taken all necessary steps to achieve the main goal. We have manages to
adopt general statements which are of fundamental importance. "
Azimov said that the main reason for the break in OSCE summits since
1999 were existing contradictions and political discontent among the
major power centers in the Euro-Atlantic world.
