The container port Petlim, built on the initiative of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) near the Turkish city of Izmir, will start operating from the end of March.

"The port is fully ready to receive vessels, so it can carry out these operations regularly from the end of March," abc.az cited a source in the Turkish government as saying.

The current capacity of the port is 1.5 million TEU. Petlim is the third largest port on the coast of the Aegean Sea.

SOCAR owns a 70% stake in the port and 30% belongs to Goldman Sachs.
