The former head of the Department of Security and Military Police Special Tasks of Georgia, Giorgi Dgebuadze, was extradited from the Netherlands to Georgia last night.

He was charged in absentia by a Georgian court for abuse of authority, insulting executives, illegal detentions and torture.

After Dgebuadze secretly left the country in 2012, Georgia’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office launched the procedure for putting him on the international wanted list. In 2014 he was arrested in the Netherlands. The negotiations on his extradition lasted two years, Interfax reports.
