Armenia remembers victims of Spitak earthquake of 1988

December 7th marks the 22nd anniversary of the devastating Spitak
earthquake of 1988, News-Armenia reports.

The earthquake occurred at 11:41 local time and virtually destroyed
two cities in northern Armenia - Spitak and Leninakan (now Gyumri) -
and over a hundred villages. A few other cities were partially
destroyed.

On this day, according to official figures, 25,000 people were killed,
140,000 were injured and half a million people were made homeless.
