EU Ambassador to Georgia: exact date of visa liberalization unknown

The head of the EU office in Georgia, Janos Herman, said he cannot name the exact date for visa liberalization.

He recalled that the European Commission issued a report on December 18, which states that Georgia has fulfilled all the points of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan. Based on this, the European Commission has recently submitted a relevant legislative proposal to the European Parliament and the Council. "So a new phase has started in the process. Now everything depends on the Council and the Parliament. You understand that I cannot name any specific date in this regard," Georgia Online cited him as saying.

"We have heard several statements with regard to visa liberalization recently. Let me mention Malmström’s visit a week ago, when she talked about visa liberalization. You also mentioned Joseph Daul’s words. I also heard that the Chairman of the European Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee made a statement about the issue. I think all of these statements are important," the diplomat added.
