Irakli Batiashvili: Armenia must comply with the UN Security Council resolution
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaArmenia must fulfill four UN Security Council resolutions in order to resolve the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the former head of the Information and Intelligence Service of Georgia, Irakli Batiashvili, said in an interview with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza.
"According to all international standards and in accordance with the UN Security Council’s resolutions, Armenia must withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. We all know and understand that "the Karabakh army," as well as "the Karabakh authorities" are completely beholden to Yerevan. It's common knowledge," he said.
‘‘As for the UN Security Council resolutions, their implementation is obligatory, but they are not implemented. As a result, it constantly escalates tensions that lead to deaths among civilians in the conditions of occupation. Of course, there is a possibility that the resumption of military conflict may become irreversible,’’ the expert expressed concern.
He noted that the OSCE Minsk Group has been engaged in the settlement of this conflict for a long time, but it failed to succeed." "The only success of the Minsk Group is that the conflict is the so-called frozen now. It is the status quo, i.e. the occupation of territories in such circumstances. It means that the conflict may break out again. The fact that the territories of Azerbaijan are occupied is absolutely without doubt from the international legal point of view. It is as clear as two plus two equals four. The Minsk group is unable to solve the problem,’’ Irakli Batiashvili said.
Recall that on the night of April 2nd all the border positions of Azerbaijan were shelled from large-caliber weapons, mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and guns. In addition, a number of shots were fired at settlements near the frontline, densely populated by civilians.
