Russia and Iran may connect Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf with canal

Moscow and Tehran are discussing the possibility of building a shipping channel from the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf. This was announced by Iran's ambassador to Russia, Mehdi Sanai, at a meeting with students of St. Petersburg State University.

"Yes, this issue is being discussed,'' RIA Novosti cites the ambassador's response to a student's question.

The diplomat didn't disclose any details.

Mehdi Sanai gave lectures on the domestic policy and international relations of Iran in the Russian language.
