Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe rocket carrying the Vostok spacecraft was launched on April 12th, 1961 at 09:07 AM from the Baikonur cosmodrome, located in the steppes of the Kazakh SSR. The member of the First Troop cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin became the first man in the world to reach outer space.
This year we celebrate the 55th anniversary of that day. A lot of events were dedicated to the anniversary.
The traditional bike ride started at the Gagarin Square last Sunday. Before the start the residents of the Gagarin district laid flowers to the monument, admired the exhibition of children's drawings and enjoyed the concert featuring well known performers.
On Tuesday, the Moscow Metro together with the Russian Space Agency launched the "space train". Its first trip started at the Polezhaevskaya station. The cars were turned into a unique mobile gallery.
Then, the "Raise your head!" action took place on the square in front of the Museum of Cosmonautics. Rally was organized by Roskosmos and the VGTRK holding. The residents of the Russian megalopolises, as well as cities associated with the life of the first cosmonaut and the historic launch. 108,000 balloons with Gagarin's portrait were launched into the sky (he spent 108 minutes in orbit).
