Georgia, Russia and Azerbaijan become victors of European Judo Championship
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe European Judo Championship finished today in Tatarstan’s capital. The Georgian national team won gold medals in the men's teams competition, defeating the national team of Russia. The team became the European champion for the 8th time. Bronze medals were won by the men's team of Azerbaijan, who defeated the French team with the score 3: 2.
The Russian women's team won silver medals as well as the men’s, lost in the finals to the Polish team with the score of 2: 3. Bronze medals in the team competition were won by the French team that was stronger then the team from Croatia, as well as the German team, which defeated the Ukrainian team.
It is worth noting that despite silver medals in the teams’ competitions, the Russian judokas took third place in the medal standings. So, the Russians won six awards at the home tournament - one gold, two silver and three bronze. Hassan Khalmurzaev won ( in the weight category up to 81 kg), the Russian men’s and women’s teams won silver in the team competition. Bronze medals were won by Arsen Galstyan ( in the weight category up 66 kg), Yuliya Ryzhov (52 kg) and Ekaterina Valkova (up to 63 kg).
The French teams won in the medal standings, taking 5 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze. The Georgian team, despite the successful performance, became only the second in the medal standings, winning 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The head coaches of the Russian teams appreciated the performance of the athletes. "We are generally satisfied with the performance of our athletes in Kazan. We gave a chance to the young generation to show themselves, and they showed their best,’’ the head coach of the Russian men's team, Dmitry Morozov, said.
