Yerevan to host international environmental conference
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaAn international conference on Environmental Security Program at the Teghut copper-molybdenum deposit exploitation will be held on Tuesday in Yerevan, the press service of the Group for the Protection of Teghut announced, RIA Novosti reports.
The Armenian Copper Programme (Hey-Si-Pi) company owns a license to develop the Teghut deposit in the Lori region in the north of Armenia.
The implementation of the Teghut mine exploitation involves cutting about 58,000 cubic meters of timber in the area of 357 hectares. Armenian environmentalists oppose the exploitation of the Teghut mine, fearing that in case of development of the mine all the adjacent land will become a "dead zone" which will disrupt the surrounding natural systems.
