Paris host celebrations for 65th anniversary of UNESCO

Mehriban Aliyeva, the first lady of Azerbaijan, president of the
Heydar Aliyev Fund, a goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, and
deputy of the Azerbaijani parliament, has taken part in the event.
She was at the presentation of a book of the goodwill ambassador of
UNESCO from Greece Marianna Mariana Vardinoyannis.
Aliyeva met the Director General of UNSECO Irina Bokova.
Bokova noted that the book was written by a member of UNESCO. It is
dedicated to the role of women in the life of society.
The anniversary ceremony started with demonstration of a video film
about the work of UNESCO. Firangiz Alizade, chairman of Azerbaijani
Composer Union, made pianoforte performances. A well-known Russian
singer Alsu welcomed Aliyeva at the event.
The Secretary General of UN Ban Ki-moon sent his congratulations to
the organization. He noted that UNESCO contributed to the world peace
and improvement of inter-civilization and inter-cultural dialogue.
Irina Bokova concluded the results of the ceremony.
Azerbaijan is an active member of UNESCO, one of the most
authoritative structures of UN. Aliyeva has been its goodwill
ambassador since 2004. She made the masterpieces of oral and
non-material heritage part of the UNESCO list. Baku established the
International Center of Mugam. Aliyeva helped put Azerbaijani cultural
monuments on the list of cultural heritage of UNESCO.
