Armenian citizens became poorer in recent years

34,1% of the population of Armenia fell below the poverty line in
2009, according to the head of the household surveys department of the
National Statistical Service (NSS) of Armenia, Diana Martirosova,
News-Armenia reports.

According to Martirosova, 20.1% (12.6% in 2008) of the population are
very poor, and those in extreme poverty are at 3.6% (1.6% in 2008).

The level of poverty in Armenia in 2008 stood at 27.6%.
