The former US Assistant Secretary for the South Caucasus, former US ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza, explained to Vestnik Kavkaza that the armed seizure of the patrol in Yerevan's Erebuni district by activists of the ‘Constitutive Parliament’ opposition movement may be a part of an attempt to try to intimidate President Sargsyan.

"I withheld commenting on the hostage-taking in Erebuni early on because the motives of the hostage-takers were unclear. But, as time has passed and I have investigated what could be happening, it seems me that perhaps this attack is part of an attempt to try to intimidate President Sargsyan into rejecting the proposals regarding a political settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict suggested by President Putin in St. Petersburg," he said.

According to him, if this is the case, those people who encouraged and enabled the hostage-takers to act may face some serious pressure.
