The Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, sent a letter today
to US President Barack Obama, urging him to prevent a debate in
the House of Representatives on a resolution recognizing the
Armenian genocide, Turkish Foreign Minister Akhmet
Davutoglu said.
Turkey is extremely sensitive to international recognition of the
genocide of Armenians, which took place in the Ottoman Empire in 1915,
and rejects all the relevant charges.

The negative reaction of Ankara to international recognition of the
Armenian genocide and the unresolved issue of Nagorno-Karabakh are the
major reasons for the absence of diplomatic relations between Turkey
and Armenia.
