Third day of Olympic Games: what to expect?
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaOn the third day of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the athletes will contend for 14 medal sets. Athletes will compete in shooting, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, diving, fencing, weightlifting, rugby 7s and swimming. In addition, Russian women's national volleyball and handball teams will play.
The second qualification among men in shooting will start at 15:30 MSK. Russia will be represented by the Olympic champion of 2004 games in Athens and a bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Alexey Alipov. Sergey Kamensky and Vladimir Maslennikov will represent Russia in 10-meter air rifle competitions.
The first Olympic medals in gymnastics will be awarded in the men’s team tournament where the finals will begin at 22.00 Moscow Time. After Saturday’s qualifying session the Russian national team (Denis Ablyazin, David Belyavsky, Ivan Stretovich, Nikolai Kuksesnkov and Nikita Nagorny) finished third, after China and the United States.
Russia is looking forward to the Olympic medals in fencing, in women’s individual sabre competitions. Among the athletes are Sofiya Velikaya, a seven-time world champion and silver medal winner at the London 2012 Games, Yekaterina Dyachenko, a two-time world champion, and a world champion Yana Egorian.
Swimmers will compete four sets of medals, with Russia pinning biggest hopes on Yuliya Efimova in women’s 100m breaststroke.
Alexander Krasnov will perform in 200m swimming among men. Both men’s and women's 100 m backstroke finals will be also held on Monday. Russia will be represented only by Evgeny Rilov. Unfortunately, Grigory Tarasevich and Anastasia Fesikova failed to get into the finals.
The third day of the Olympic Games is also marked by competitions in the men's 10m synchronized diving and judo (men's up to 73 kg and women's up to 57 kg).
The Russian team failed to qualify for women's rugby sevens competition. The final game is scheduled for 1:00 MSK.
Men's up to 62 kg and women's up to 58 kg will contend for 2 medal sets in weightlifting.
