Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan intends to develop military cooperation with Russia

‘‘The level of relations between Baku and Moscow allows to solve a lot of issues related to the regional security,’’ President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated today in Baku during talks with Defense Minister, Army General, Sergey Shoigu.

"Your visit is taking place after shortly after the visit of Russian President. We have a wide range of bilateral relations, which cover almost all aspects of life. It was noted (during the visit of President Putin) that the high level of relations between our countries allows solve a lot of issues in the bilateral agenda, as well as issues related to regional security,’’ Tass cites Ilham Aliyev as saying.

President of Azerbaijan informed the head of the Russian Defense Ministry that issues related to cooperation in military and military-technical sphere were discussed during the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "We have been actively cooperating for many years in order to building the necessary potential for cooperation,’’ the head of Azerbaijan said, adding that Azerbaijani servicemen took part in the international Military Games 2016 and even had not bad results.

"Our participation in this important international event reflects the level of cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan. In addition, I would like to congratulate the Russian team with victory in the competition,’’ President Aliyev said.

President noted, "issues related to further cooperation will be discussed in detail’’ as a part of this visit.

At the same time the head of the Russian Defense Ministry said during a meeting with President of Azerbaijan that the military departments of Russia and Azerbaijan have the topics that are necessary to be discussed on the part of the military and military-technical cooperation.

Recall that the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Army General, Sergey Shoigu paid a short working visit today to the capital of Azerbaijan where he is to hold talks with Defense Minister of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov.

The sides will discuss topical issues of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation, as well as problems of regional and international security. They will also exchange their views on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh.
