Day of Magomayev’s birth celebrated in Israel
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe International Association Israel-Azerbaijan ‘Aziz’ has been holding events dedicated to Muslim Magomayev for years. This year, spectators from all over Israel gathered in one of the halls of the Palace of Culture of the city of Netanya to remember the great singer, who is beloved not only in Azerbaijan, but also in all of the countries of the former Soviet Union, on the day of the birth of Muslim Magomayev.
All evening they enjoyed songs, music and stories about their favorite artist. The concert program compiled by Lilya Bogatyryova and Rita Rakovshchik included both songs from the repertoire of Muslim Magomayev, sung by Tomer Aliyev and Sergey Ilyasafov, and modern songs performed by Iraida Panina, and the young vocalist Timothy Sannikov, who sang in Yiddish. The violinists Alexander Spivak and Yelena Borisova-Spivak performed works by the Azerbaijani classical composers Fikret Amirov and Uzeyir Hajibeyov.
The director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center of the Association ‘Aziz’, Yegan Salman, spoke about the life and work of Muslim Magomayev. The writer and journalist Mark Kotlyarskii shared his memories. Assistance in organizing the evening was provided by the mayor of Netanya, Miriam Faerberg, a deputy of the city council, Gersh Fishman, and by the director of the local department of absorption, George Dubin.
