The Chechen police have detained a suspected participant in the
conflict in the town of Zelenokumsk in Stavropol Territory. The
conflict happened between local Chechens and Cossacks in late
November, RIA Novosti cites the deputy head of Chechen Ministry of
Interior Affairs, Roman Edilov.

A group of young people decided to protect an under-aged girl in
Zelenokumsk on November 27. She complained to them that locals had
attempted to force her into their car. The Cossacks opened fire at
them. 8 people were injured.

The suspect was detained in Shalin District, Edilov said at a council
with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

The police suspect him in a rape attempt of an under-aged local from
Stavropol Territory.

Kadyrov said that if they prove the suspect’s guilt he deserves the
heaviest punishment. He emphasized that a very careful and
unprejudiced investigation should be conducted.
