Crimea celebrates Flag Day

The citizens of Crimea are celebrating the Day of the State Emblem and the State Flag of the Republic for the first time. A year ago, the peninsula celebrated the Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Crimea on January 19, but the decision of the national authorities in March 2015 moved the celebration to September 24th.

Today, Simferopol hosted celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the State Emblem and the State Flag of the Republic of Crimea. More than a thousand people attended a meeting on the square in front of the State Council of the Republic, Kryminform reports.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Council of Ministers and the State Council of Crimea, the chief adviser of the Department of internal policy of the Plenipotentiary Representative of Russian President in the Southern Federal District, Sergei Shmarov, the members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Olga Kovitidi and Sergey Tsekov, representatives of the Crimean People's Self-Defence, Russian Guards, Cossacks and cadets.

The Russian and Crimean flags were raised on the square in front of the State Council.

The Crimean flag is a triband, striped horizontally in blue-white-red.
