A court in Kazakhstan’s city of Almaty sentenced to death Ruslan Kulekbayev, who was accused of killing 10 people including eight police officers.

"The court imposes a death penalty on Ruslan Kulekbayev," Sputnik cited a judge as saying.

On July 18, an armed man, later identified as Ruslan Kulekbayev, attacked police officers in Almaty killing nine people. Another woman was killed by Kulekbayev at night before the attack.

Death sentence came despite a moratorium on capital punishment introduced by President Nursultan Nazarbayev on December 17, 2003.
