New Year show organized for young Cossack in Stavropol Territory

Stavropol has organized a New Year show for young Cossacks of the
Tersky forces in Stavropol Territory, North Ossetia-Alania,
Kabardino-Balkaria and Chechnya, Yuga.ru reports.

The press-service of the Stavropol District Cossack Society learned
about the beliefs and traditions in celebrating New Year and Christmas
in former times. Stavropol poet Vitislav Khodarev has been collecting
information on traditions, songs and games in his book.

The “Chebyryayka” game created the most excitement. It was popular in
the Cossack villages of Novomaryevskaya, Ardonskaya,
Khasav-Yurtovskaya, Holmskaya and the Tamanskaya peninsula. Father
Frost was playing a game with children, listening to verses and songs.
There were awards for the “What our little Cossacks like” contest.

Head of the Tersky Cossack force Vasily Bondarev awarded the prizes,
presents and diplomas. He congratulated the children on the coming New
Year and Christmas. The winners received cherkesskas (national coats)
and fur hats from Goryachevodsk businessman Mikhail Medvedev. They
received sabres, daggers, digital cameras, photo frames, MP3 players,
icons and other presents from the Cossack leader.
