The exhibition of Azerbaijani artists of 1960-1980's 'Absheron Constellation' opened at the Tretyakov Gallery yesterday. It was opened in the cooperation with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Mardjani Foundation. 'Absheron Constellation' became the first in a series of exhibitions, introducing the art of the former Soviet Union republics, which are independent states now.

The exhibition includes the paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery which can be called "official", and those works from Azerbaijani museums and private collections which were not widely known to public. Such a diverse approach demonstrates a picture of the art process in Azerbaijan in its entirety.

The First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, addressed the vernissage. She stressed that the exhibition is an outstanding event in the cultural life of Azerbaijan and expressed hope that it will be of the same significance in the cultural life of Russia too. First Lady of Azerbaijan noted that it is no coincidence that the organizers of the exhibition chose a period of 60-80's of the last century, which was a time of an active development in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
