Margvelashvili: it's time for extraordinary steps
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaGeorgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili addressed the 9th Parliament of Georgia and offered a "new regime of cooperation and a constructive dialogue,” which meant beforehand talks between President and lawmakers on challenging and problematic issues.
In his speech the President highlighted the importance of "active and extraordinary steps” to improve state economy, necessity of changes in the Constitution, ensuring comprehensive justice reform, providing best practices to defend media freedom and need of high-level education.
"Today is the time of active actions, time for taking extraordinary steps that will ensure better economy, that will attract foreign investments and make the national currency stable,” Agenda.ge cited the President as saying.
"I appeal to the ruling team-today you have all opportunities to meet all your election promises, you have the constitutional majority, which is a very strong lever to carry out any reform,” the President added.
Margvelashvili stated there was a need to review and amend the current Constitution of Georgia that was adopted under the previous United National Movement and then amended by the Georgian Dream authorities.
The President stressed the Constitution included a "range of drawbacks” that must be improved "based on a large-scaled dialogue.”
Margvelashvili offered the invitation of the European Union mission to help in planning and implementing of the reform.
