Director Paradzhanov's birthday celebrated in Tbilisi

Film director Sergey Paradzhanov's 87th birthday was celebrated in
Tbilisi yesterday. The Georgian Ministry of Culture held events at the
director’s monument. People laid pomegranates at the monument as a
symbol of respect and in memory of one of his films 'The Color of
Pomegranates', Georgia Online reports.


People taking part in the events said that Tbilisi needs to name a
street after Paradzhanov. There were film demonstrations and an
exhibition of photos and paintings depicting the director and his
works.


Sergey Paradzhanov was born in Tbilisi on January 9, 1924. In 1952 he
graduated from the directing faculty of the All-Russia State Institute
of Cinematography. “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”, “The Color of
Pomegranates” and “The Legend of Suram Fortress” are the films of his
that received international awards. His film “Ashik Kerib” received
the Felix Award at the European Film Academy in 1988.
