Olga Golodets congratulates Baku branch of MSU on Tatiana's Day
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaDeputy Chairman of the Russian Government Olga Golodets, speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza, congratulated the Baku branch of the Moscow State University on the Tatyana’s Day, which is marking on January 25 - the 262nd anniversary of the establishment of the Moscow University.
"I really like the university, I visited it. We have established good stable relations with the Baku branch of Moscow State University," Olga Golodets noted.
"I want to congratulate my colleagues, I hope they will celebrate Tatiana's Day together with us, according to a good old tradition," the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government said.
The Baku branch of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov was established under the decree of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on January 15, 2008 and the order of the Rector of the University, Viktor Sadovnichy, of September 25, 2007. Its official opening took place on February 27, 2009.
The rector of the Baku branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University is the member of Russian Academy of Science, Doctor of Philology, Professor Nargiz Pashayeva.
At a recent meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Viktor Sadovnichy, described the Baku branch of Moscow State University as "the best university in Azerbaijan", and its students - the "elite of Azerbaijan."
The tradition to celebrate this day started in the 18th century. In 1755, on that day the Empress Elizabeth signed the decree on the foundation of Moscow University. The day coincided with the memorial day of the Holy Martyr Tatyana, who became the patroness of all Russian students. Russian students celebrate the January 25th as the Moscow Studenthood Day since 2005.
